Our weekend effectively started Thursday night and was long and lazy. We decided not to go anywhere since there was a dry law in place because of an election on Sunday (I guess they don´t want people drunk when they go to vote). On thursday we went to a club where girls get in free before 11 and there are free drinks all night long. (Club Fizz). Friday I slept late and to be honest I don´t really remember what we did the rest of the weekend...I think just laid around and did nothing...we went to a Movie once though. At the movies we met a couple guys from the Guayaquil soccer team Emelec. We have to soccer teams...Barcelona and Emelec...I would say Barcelona would kind of be like the Yankees and Emelec the Mets. They were really nice and the guys got autographs for the kids at their orphanage. This weekend started with a mess of problems yesterday. Working at Nuevos Caminos is still challenging. Its fun when I am teaching or working with the kids but the teacher often goes to work with other teachers or answer the phone and I am left alone...and the kids have nothing to do. Most of the time I have to keep them from attacking each other. Its like watching a classroom full of second graders except the youngest is 14 and the oldest 28 so you can imagine when one whacks another with a notebook or a backpack it packs more of a wallop that a second grader would. And of course as with all kids the immediate response is ¡No lo comienzo! (I didn´t start it!) It´s also difficult cause don´t really have all the words in Spanish to properly reprimand them. I called Camilo, the country co-ordinator and asked him why I was not in the placement they told me I would be in. He just said ok lets go look at Justo y Nececario tomorrow (I don´t know if that means I am switching there or what) and I still don´t know why I wasn´t there in the first place but oh well. I also don´t want to completely give up on Nuevos Caminos because working there is really fun and rewarding when we actually have stuff to do. I dunno. I think tonight we may branch out from the two little eateries we go to everyday for dinner. We are thinking about going down to las peñas. A colorful refurbished area downtown that looks over the harbor. Aparently there are quite a few nice cafes and small bars...Camilo is picking me up at 8 tomorrow though so I hope it´s not too late. Hasta Pronto.
