Our flight got into Guatemala City by around 9 this morning so it was too early to check into our good ol' apartment style room at Los Torres. So, the plan was to drop me off with all of our stuff at a cafe to hang out and kill time for a few hours. Nate supposedly had one last interview to wrap up in town before we could do anything else. Honestly, I was far too exhausted to catch on to anything. So, when the cabbie began to slow down on a street I didn't recognize I turned to Nate with a confused look on my face. He just smiled and said,"Happy Birthday." Still somewhat misunderstanding the situation he explained to me he'd already arranged to have our luggage (we'd stored it at Los Torres while in Belize) moved over to a super swanky hotel for our last night! So, we spent the day eating and drinking and lounging in their nicest room;) The whole place had the trendy, modern, asian feel. The dinner was particularly amazing along with my birthday flan! And to top it all off, in the dining area they overhead projected old Popeye cartoons and Laurel and Hardy movies "rave style" on a blank wall dubbed with techno music! Talk about weird ambiance;)
It was the perfect way to end the trip and celebrate my 22nd...
We made it home safely despite us flying home on the 10th, the day of all the liquid carry-on madness! We had to do a lot of last minute shifting around duty free liquor and Belizian hot sauce when we hit the States in Dallas/Ft.Worth. But absolutely NO problem getting Nate's 25lbs of coffee through customs! I was also attempting to sneak my hammock chair as one of my carry-ons and was also shut down... "Do you have any idea what they're used for?" the Airline employee said staring at us with a straight face, "They bludgeon people with them!" HAHA... so long story short, they check it and of course lose it on the way back to Tucson! Luckily they were able to deliver it before we took off for New Mex... Lastly, the dogs were very happy to have us back and thanks to the monsoons we now have a jungle in our backyard in place of the dust bowl!
Thanks for reading up on me;)
