Grand Baie

Grand Baie, only 1km away from Pereybere, is actually a slightly larger version of its quieter neighbor.  Both towns are bereft of sidewalks, which makes walking alongside narrow roads interesting, but Grand Baie has the annoyance of more traffic.  Grand Baie is also missing the clean swimming lagoon Pereybere can boast of, thought it is just as scenic.  In Grand Baie we visited the Grand Baie Bazaar, a crazy shopping area packed full of aggressive vendors.  We didn't stick around long due to the almost claustrophobic feel (I felt really sorry for the people working there, packed together without air conditioning or even fans!) and the fact that we don't like people who hassle us when we are trying to shop!  Grand Baie has some tourist stores (more expensive, of course) where they leave you alone more, and altogether there are some interesting shopping selections in the town.
