Every morning, as the sun was rising, I would walk along the beach. My feet caressed the sand, as the warm ocean water approached, enveloping my feet, my legs and sometimes my soul.
I would sit on the sand as the morning sun's rays embraced me and listen to the luring hum of the ocean. It was during one of these moments that I had a revelation. I was listening to the waves beginning from the point where it gathers and breaks, caresses the sand, then bubbles into foam as it finally recedes. The ocean had no concept of time. The waves wouldn't always come timed; one after the other. Sometimes it would and sometimes it wouldn't. There were times a series of small waves would crash on the sand and before the last one completely receded, a larger one gathers and explodes behind it, the smaller then continues to recede and acts as a buffer, diffusing the power of the larger wave before it crashes onto the sand making it less intrusive.
I thought about this and how it applied to life. We are all bombarded by small trials in our lives. Sometimes we wonder about the purpose of these trials and don't realize that the small trials that consume us daily, prepares, buffers and protects us from the onslaught of larger trials. Thus protecting our heart, soul and mind from it's original intended power. It's the very act of enduring and overcoming these small trials that we build familiarity, so that when faced with the larger trial, we are better armed, with determination and hope that we will overcome it just as we did the smaller ones. Thus reducing if not diminishing the intended impact on our hearts, souls, mind and body. Making us somewhat invincible.
