Upon arriving at the Glen Town Center, we were pleasantly surprised at how cozy and quaint the whole town center was and I was perplexed as to why I hadn't been there before! The streets were cobblestoned and the layout with parking was especially nice. All around were beautiful brownstone buildings.
We decided to go the the Book Market first. Upon entering, we were greeted by a very friendly sales person, and the store itself was very appealing. Eye-catching children's colorful pop-up books and toys were displayed prominently near the front door. The walls were covered with paintings for sale from the Glenview art league. Overall, we all got some great ideas that will ultimately make our library look a little more attractive and inviting.
Next we moved on to the main reason for shopping extravaganza - Von Maur. Well, if you've never been to one - you really need to experience shopping at its finest. The first thing that strikes you when you walk in the door is how beautifully decorated and clean this store is. The sales people are all eager to help you find what you need. At every department we walked thru we were greeted by someone in that department. Music is being played on a grand piano while you shop - how cool is that! While I didn't find what I was looking for, a sales person personally helped me try to find that perfect dress. One department even had samples of truffles and bon-bons we could enjoy! We did find some good bargains on the clearance shelf and a few other goodies.
Anything you buy at Von Maur's will be shipped or gift wrapped for free and you needn't have a store credit card for this service (I got one anyway). The motto in the gift wrapping and shipping department is: Our only interest is . . . YOU!
After dining, we walked around the center. We saw a cute shoe store and decided to go in. Figaro Shoe Design - What a disappointing experience. This is small, European shoe boutique with some attractive, different items. We were the only customers in the store, and were totally ignored by the sales clerk.
When the clerk finally got off of the phone, Barb asked her for a certain size in a shoe. The clerk acted like it was an inconvenience to help her. Barb liked the shoes, but did not purchase them because of the attitude of the clerk. We were ignored and felt like we were imposing on the clerk.
Overall, our experience was very satisfying, and I believe that the customer service at Von Maur is exceptionally good. Of course, on the day that we were there it was a week day and the store was not very crowded but the salespeople really did make you feel welcome and willing to help. I would definitely recommend this shopping center as there are many good restaurants, theater and shops with a quaint town feel to it.
