Best Dining Bets

by Frommers Travel Guides

Molly B (Estes Park; tel. 970/586-2766): Breakfast at Molly B is the perfect way to prepare for a day of serious hiking, and you won't have to worry about going away hungry. Try one of the spicy specialties or opt for a conservative American basic such as bacon and eggs.

Dunraven Inn (Estes Park; tel. 970/586-6409): This dinner-only fine-dining restaurant is the place to go to celebrate a special occasion or perhaps to reward yourself for finally making it to the top of Longs Peak. The Dunraven serves a variety of Italian specialties and is memorably decorated with numerous images of the Mona Lisa, including one sporting a mustache.

Back-Street Steakhouse (Grand Lake; tel. 970/627-8144): This country inn-style restaurant in the Daven Haven lodge offers fine dining in a down-home atmosphere. Being a steak house, there are numerous excellent steaks, from the 8-ounce filet mignon to the 12-ounce New York strip, but the house specialty is Jack Daniel's pork chops -- breaded, baked, and served with a creamy Jack Daniel's mushroom sauce.

EG's Garden Grill (Grand Lake; tel. 970/627-8404): Ask any resident of Grand Lake where to go for lunch or dinner, and the response will likely be "EG's." The menu offers innovative items such as catfish with jalapeño tartar sauce, something one doesn't expect to find in a small Colorado mountain town.
