Tips for Travelers with Pets

by Frommers Travel Guides

Pets with proper rabies vaccination records may be admitted to Canada, but review the necessary procedures with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), at tel. 506/636-5064, and online at www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca.

To ensure a smooth border crossing on your return, check with U.S. Customs and Border Protection before leaving. The useful brochure "Pets and Wildlife" is available as a PDF from the U.S. Customs website at www.customs.gov.

Many hotels in the cities now accept pets, and some even offer walking services and little beds for dogs. There are often restrictions about the size of the animal, whether it can be in public areas, and whether it can be left alone in the hotel room. Most hotels charge an extra fee of C$25 (US$22/£11) or more.
