Pick up one of the helpful maps and a great regional brochure at the Franschhoek Tourism Bureau, on the main road going into town, at 70 Huguenot Rd. (tel. 021/876-3603; Mon-Fri 9am-6pm, Sat-Sun 9am-4pm; hours are extended Oct-Apr).
Getting Around
The town is small enough to traverse on foot, but to visit the wine farms, you will need to hire a car, taxi, or specialist guide. For shuttle services, transfers, and general tours, contact Franschhoek Experience (tel. 083/234-4038) or Winelands Tours (tel. 082/774-2790). For wine-tasting expeditions on purebred Arab horses, contact Paradise Stables (tel. 021/876-2160; www.paradisestables.co.za; R350/$49/£25 includes wine tasting).
