Planning a Trip

by Frommers Travel Guides

Getting There -- From the Costa del Sol (the usual approach to Mijas), buses leave from the terminal at Fuengirola every 30 minutes during the day for the 8km (5-mile) trip north. Motorists in Fuengirola on the coast can follow the signs north into the hills, leading directly to Mijas. The hair-raising drive takes only 20 minutes. Tip: Try to arrive in Mijas at 4 o'clock in the afternoon when all the Costa del Sol tour groups have departed.

Visitor Information -- Buses arrive at a central square, Plaza Virgen de la Peña, which is also the site of the local tourist office (look for the sign; www.mijas-digital.es). Hours are Monday to Friday from 9am to 7pm, Saturday from 10am to 3pm. The tourist office will provide you with leaflets outlining scenic walks in the surrounding hills.
