Introduction

by Frommers Travel Guides

    35km (22 miles) NE of Vicenza, 43km (27 miles) N of Padua, 16km (10 miles) W of Asolo, 47km (29 miles) W of Treviso

This picturesque town on the Brenta River is renowned for its centuries-old production of handcrafted ceramics and of grappa, Italy's national firewater of choice. Its Palladian covered wooden bridge is a highlight of the small centro storico. The city's arcaded homes, whose facades are painted in the traditional manner, and small squares make this a lovely break from the larger towns described in this guide.

    Festivals

In June, Bassano invites international street musicians to perform in a festival. Bassano's annual Opera Estate Festival takes place from early July through August, with alfresco performances of opera, concerts, a mini jazz fest, and dance (ballet, modern, and folk). For information, contact the tourist office (Largo Corona d'Italia 35; tel. 0424-524-214; fax 0424-525-138; www.comune.bassano.vi.it).

Law school guys are so cool... getting a bottle of prosecco for the bus ride home. The view from the Ponte Vecchio Abbey and Jen, in Bassano del Grappa Jennifer insisted on after-dinner shots... Abbey didn't need to be pressured, though!
