    Getting There

Pau-Uzein airport is 12km (7 1/2 miles) north of town; call tel. 05-59-33-33-00 for flight information. There are good train connections from Biarritz (six per day taking 1 1/2 hr.); the one-way fare is 16€ ($21). For train information, call tel. 08-92-35-35-35 from abroad. Driving to Pau is relatively easy because of its location along the N117 roadway, which is directly accessible from Toulouse. From Paris, take A10 south to Vierzon, changing to N20 south to Limoges, continuing on N21 south to Tarbes, and finally turning west along N117 to Pau.

    Visitor Information

The Office de Tourisme is on place Royale (tel. 05-59-27-27-08; fax 05-59-27-03-21; www.pau.fr).

    Special Events

In early June there's the Grand Prix de Pau (tel. 05-59-27-31-89), where race cars compete for speed records in what may remind you of a small-scale replica of the Grand Prix in Monaco.
