American Express -- Atlas Travel's main office at Cira Carica 3 (tel. 020/419-119; fax 020/442-645; www.atlas-croatia.com) is the American Express agent in Dubrovnik. Atlas-Amex also has an office at Brsalje 17 (tel. 020/442-574), open from 8am to 7pm Monday through Saturday.
ATMs -- Dubrovacka Bank operates eight Bankomats (ATMs) in Dubrovnik; Privredna Bank operates four. Other Croatian banks operate Bankomats throughout Dubrovnik. These are centrally located at the Stradun, Lapad, and Pile Gate (at the cafe bar Dubrava), in Gruz and in Cavtat.
Banks -- Banks are generally open from 7:30am to 7pm Monday through Friday and from 7:30 to 11:30am Saturday. Some banks close for lunch.
Business Hours -- Most grocery stores and department stores are open from 7:30am to 8pm. Non-government offices generally work 8:30am to 5pm Monday through Friday.
Credit Cards -- Credit cards are generally accepted at hotels and larger restaurants, but be sure to ask before you order.
Emergencies -- Dial tel. 94.
Fire -- Dial tel. 93.
Hospital -- Go to the Dubrovnik General Hospital (tel. 020/431-777).
Information -- You can reach the Dubrovnik Tourist Board at tel. 020/323-887; the Dubrovnik Neretva County Tourist Board can be reached at tel. 020/413-301.
Internet Cafe -- Try the cozy Netcafe Internet Bar (no. 21 in the middle of Prijeko St.'s restaurant block). Connections are fast, the coffee is excellent, and the place is air-conditioned. Open 9am to 11pm daily.
Pharmacy -- Pharmacies in Dubrovnik have varied working hours: They're open mornings and afternoons Monday through Friday, but only in the morning Saturday. Almost all accept credit cards.
Police -- Dial tel. 92.
Telephone -- Public telephone boxes accept only phone cards available from newspaper stands and post offices.
Time Zone -- Dubrovnik is on Central European Time (GMT plus 1 hr.). Daylight saving time starts at the end of March and ends on the last day of September.
Tipping -- Tipping is generally not expected, though it is appreciated.
