Lying on a sunny plateau in the alpine foothills at an elevation of 877m (2,877 ft.), Igls is the resort choice of many travelers who prefer staying here and driving into Innsbruck, which is 5km (3 miles) north (take Rte. 82). Although its numbers swell greatly with winter and summer visitors, the town has a population of fewer than 2,000. Long known as the "sun terrace" of Innsbruck, Igls is never likely to be too hot, even on the hottest day in Austria. Because it's so popular, Igls is certainly not the cheapest resort in Tyrol.
