Getting There -- From Melbourne, take the Mornington Peninsula Freeway to Rosebud, and then the Point Nepean Road. If you want to cross Port Phillip Bay from Sorrento to Queenscliff, take the Sea Road Ferry (tel. 03/5258 3244; www.searoad.com.au), which operates daily every hour on the hour between 7am and 6pm in both directions. The one-way fare is around A$49 (U$39/UK£20) for a car and driver, and about A$6 (US$4.80/UK£2.40) per extra passenger, but changes slightly depending on the season. Foot-passenger fares (one-way) are A$9 (US$7.20/UK£3.60) for adults, A$8 (US$6.40/UK£3.20) for students 16 and over, A$7 (US$5.60/UK£2.80) for children 5 to 15, and A$1 (US80¢/UK40p) for children under 5. The crossing takes 35 to 40 minutes.
Visitor Information -- The Peninsula Visitor Information Centre, Point Nepean Road, Dromana (tel. 1800/804 009 in Australia, or 03/5987 3078; www.visitmorningtonpeninsula.org), has plenty of maps and information on the area and can also help book accommodations. It's open daily from 9am to 5pm, except December 25 and Good Friday.
