For those who don't know, North America ramps up on either side up to the rockies. Frisco is about 1 hour 30 out west of denver and is about 10000ft(3000m). The sky towers 300m so frisco is bloody high. Quite alot of people get altitude sick up here and the only way to get through it is to drink a heap of water and take it easy. I was already dehydrated and had no stomach contents so i didnt hold much hope for my luck of not getting sick. I drank heaps though and was fine, but still felt pretty weird for a few days. Its quite a bit harder to breathe and it feels like your in water with pressure on you for a few days.
The day i arrived a huge storm was rolling through so when i got off the shuttle it was snowing hard and it was bloody cold!! I headed to the alpen hutte where i stayed until sunday. This place is a huge old lodge that looked like it was out of the 60/70s. The owners seemed to be stuck in that era too, dressing, looking and sounding like hippies with posters of woodstock etc all over the walls. Once you got used to the surroundings though this place was good. That night i met up with a heap of others in the same situation who were there for the season. Had some good nights out at bars and playin poker at the lodge. Over the first couple of days the temperature got down to -20 Farenheit which is nearly -30 degrees.. so it was cold!!
