Well, I can now say I have climbed a Glacier. We opted for the longest trip onto Franz Josef Glacier and it was worth out. Getting kitted up in the gear and boots was fun and we were glad of the warmth later on in the day! We caught the bus early in the morning to the bottom of the Glacier and met our guide Julia. She was welding a rather scary looking pick axe and cutting steps in the ice for us. We set of up some pretty gruelling steps and climbed and climbed for a few hours! It was amazing we walked through crevices and ice tunnels. After a packed lunch, very quick as you got a rather wet bottom sitting down too long, we went even higher. Julia took us on paths that she was literally cutting as we went, until the weather started to turn and it was time to start making our descent back down. Getting down took half the time as going up and boy were we shattered by the end. My poor feet were very sore! I'd like to say we then partied hard in Franz Josef but sadly I was tucked up and fast asleep bu 9pm. Ah the high life!
