OK so I know you have all missed me! Sorry this took me so long to get going but I'm a busy girl with lots of things to do and see! I'll catch up everyone on everything I've done so far!
When I arrived at the airport around noon and Tanna and her Dad were there to pick me up! Thank goodness because I was one tired little girl! They took me to our hotel where we had to stay for orientation and I changed and got ready to check out the sights! Since Tanna's Dad does business all over the world he has multiple connections and found us an amazing tour guide that showed us around and refreshed my memory! It was literally the history of Florence in like 2 hours! So much information and dates but all together very interesting! After that was over Tanna and I headed back to the hotel, took a nap and showered for dinner.
We went to dinner with Tanna's Dad and three of his Italian employees. They were all very nice! Jeanetto ordered all of our appetizers and I was a little hestitant but deicided I would try EVERYTHING to be polite. Everyone who knows my eating habits would actually be pretty proud of me for trying new things. So they bring out this toast with brown looking dog food on it! I shouldn't have even asked what it was but of course I did...it was liver! Blah! So as I promised myself I tried it and I literally almost vommited right at the table and I struggled a little to swallow it but I did and chugged my wine after to get the taste out. From then on we had seriosuly 5 more courses and I was stuffed and not feeling so hot. On the way home I felt sick but when we got back to the hotel I decided just to hit the hay. Bad idea! I feel asleep for maybe 3 hours, woke up in a cold sweat and vommited ALL OVER the floor my entire meal! I repeated that pretty much every hour for the rest of night! It was awful and I felt so bad for Tanna and her Dad! They were so nice about it though! I'm pretty sure I'm never eating liver again!
The next few days were orientation and we all know how orientations are...boring and meaningless! The only exciting day was when we found out who and where we were living.
I live with my friend Laura from school that is in my sorority and also one of the girls I'm living with next year. We live about a 3 minute walk from the Duomo which is smack dab in the heart of Florence. I climb literally 81 (yes I counted) steps everyday to get to the apartment where I live with a divorced woman in her 60's named Pierra. She's very nice and speaks mostly Italian but a little bit of broken English which is good because Laura doesn't know Italian! She owns a jewelery and silver shop on a main road here and has another shop in Miami! She cooks for us Monday through Friday and it is amazing! So tastey! Every night we get a pasta, some kind of meat, a side, salad, bread, cheese, and fruit for dessert! Needless to say I'm eating a lot! We also don't even eat dinner until 8:30 at night!
School is about a 20 minute walk from my house and it's actually really refreshing to walk everywhere all the time but at the same time tiring so sometimes I take the bus. I'm taking 4 classes since my Italian class is 2 hours Monday through Thursday it counts for 6 credits! It gets unbearable at times! I'm also taking a management class and two classes with the same professor about the European Union, economics of and then politics of the EU. It's interesting beacuse she's Italian so sometimes her views on things are very different from anyone who I've ever had and she's very opinionated.
