Fatu Hiva is one of the larger inhabited islands of the Marquesas but can only be reached by boat. It turns out that the annual pilgrimage of sailing boats creates enough traffic for the locals to set up tourist shops at their homes where they peddle their artwork - mainly tapas and carved wood - or offer a simple three course dining experience.

The Bay or Virgins is very scenic, but small. And already pretty much filled up by other boats when we arrive. We have to set anchor challengingly close to rocks.

This island is so inaccessible, the only way to get to the other side of the island is to take a boat or a helicopter!

We decide to take a rejuvenating hike to a waterfall up in the mountains. As we are picking our path, I get there limping of course. Jen and Rich are very excited to finally see water again and take a frolicking bath in the chilling water. I get goosebumps just watching them!

(Yes, there are a few more pictures here).
