Il Francescano is a typical Tuscan trattoria for people who love good food. The dining room is small and welcoming and the loyal clientele - which includes writers, painters and actors from Florence, is testament to the restaurant's excellence. The food is simple and tasty but never overpriced. Its Tuscan antipasti are famous, as are the crostoni (fried bread) with beans. Typical dishes might be bread soup with tomato, risotto with pumpkin and cappellacci with thyme. The main meat courses are good, especially the bistecca alla fiorentina (steak). Good Tuscan wines are also available.
