Its tropical flavor, splashy Caribbean art, and peppery cuisine have kept this place superheated for over 20 years. Start with the fabulous kalaloo soup -- the real thing, with okra, spinach, thyme, Congo peppers, and lime. Among main-course favorites are grilled marlin with wasabi mousseline, Cubana chicken stuffed with bananas and cream cheese, lamb glazed with guava, and (just to show they won't be hemmed in by arbitrary geographical borders) spicy Thai noodles and chicken satays. They have daily fish specials. The bar and front terrace fill early each night, usually with young to 40-ish professional types intent on unwinding as fast as easy companionship and rum drinks will allow. You can order most dishes mild, medium, or hot (and they mean hot!). In winter, the fire on the hearth adds a welcome touch.
