The back street of Paulay Ede utca is filling up with restaurants and cafés, including Pesti Vendeglo 1998, which sits next to the Vista Travel Café. While the Vista offers international dishes, Pesti Vendeglo 1998 aims to provide traditional Hungarian home cooking. Owner and chef Jozsef Viski is considered by many to be one of the best interpreters of Hungarian home-style cooking in town. The set menu is an excellent value considering the location right in the heart of the city. Goose soup with matzo balls or wild game ragout soup make hearty starters. Vegetarians would probably be better off going next door as here the main courses are chicken breast stuffed with Camembert or crisp goose leg, baked potato and spicy cabbage or wild boar stew—not for the faint of heart. Stodgy Hungarian desserts can also be sampled if you have any room left.Disabled Access.
