The National Children's Castle, located on Aoyama Dori about halfway between Aoyama and Shibuya (and a bit of a trek from either station), is a great place to stay if you're traveling with young children. Located on the sixth and seventh floors, the hotel is plain rather than playful, but the complex boasts Tokyo's best and most sophisticated indoor/outdoor playground for children. Guests range from businesspeople on weekdays to families and young college students on weekends. The rooms -- mainly twins -- are simple and of adequate size, with large windows. The most expensive twins, which face Shinjuku, have the best views and are a great value. Note that the hotel's three singles do not have windows, but you can pay extra to stay in a twin. The three Japanese-style rooms, available for three or more people, are a good way for families to experience the traditional Japanese lifestyle. Make reservations at least 2 months in advance, especially if you plan on being in Tokyo in the summer. Note that there's an 11pm curfew, check-in isn't until 3pm, and not much English is spoken.
