There was some anxiety that Brigtsen's might not reopen post-storm, but it did, once again offering one of the loveliest evenings you'll spend in a Crescent City restaurant. Nestled in a converted 19th-century house at the Riverbend, Brigtsen's is warm, intimate, and romantic. The individual dining rooms are small and cozy, and the menu changes daily.Brigsten has a special touch with rabbit: One of his most mouthwatering dishes is an appetizer of rabbit tenderloin on a tasso-Parmesan grits cake with sautéed spinach and a Creole mustard sauce. The rabbit and andouille gumbo is delicious, intensely flavored, and well balanced. You can't miss with any of the soups, especially the lovely butternut squash shrimp bisque, and there's an entree to please everyone. One of the most popular dishes is roast duck with cornbread dressing and pecan gravy, with the duck skin roasted to a delightful crackle. Then there's blackened yellowfin tuna with a smoked corn sauce; despite the overuse, not to mention misuse, of the word (and cooking style) "blackened" back in the day, we love it so when it's done right.
