You are likely to enjoy your finest meal at this relatively new restaurant, which is winning friends among the more discriminating palates of Birmingham. Affiliated with its even more famous sibling in London, chefs work feverishly in the open-plan kitchen. As you study the menu, you look up nervously at the glass shards hanging precariously from the ceiling. Start, perhaps, with delectable rock oysters or the mussels of the day, perhaps Scottish smoked salmon. For a main course, we'd recommend such well-prepared and flavorful dishes as rump of lamb with duxelles of mushrooms or the roast sea bass with a basil oil and pine nut dressing. Some desserts are contemporary; others hark back to olden days as evoked by the rhubarb-and-apple crumble with clotted-cream ice cream.
