Description
Description
This small but excellent museum displays a
collection of carved decoys -- some of them more than a century old
-- and decorative wildlife, plus paintings of ducks, geese, and
other wildfowl. It occupies the white-brick-and-clapboard DeWitt
beach cottage built in 1895 by Virginia Beach's first mayor. The
oldest structure on the waterfront, the cottage alone is worth a
stop as you stroll along the Boardwalk. It's operated by the Back
Bay Wildfowl Guild, which applies the donations and profits from
the gift shop (which carries excellent decoys) to its conservation
efforts.
