Giancarlo Gioco is known in Verona as the high priest of gourmet dining. After the surprising appearance of fish tureen (scorpion fish, bass and salmon), you can sample home-grown tomatoes with fresh basil, delicious sea-bass ravioli, layers of pasta with seafood sauce, baked sweet turbot with taragon; these are followed by the meat dishes, beef fillet steak, and veal sweetbread. The dessert menu offers a separate, equally appealing choice: crème brûlée with pistacchio purée, and a range of sorbets. There is a good selection of wines, and the service is faultless, as well as friendly.
