A quiet downtown block in the financial district has been home to this relaxed bistro for over 15 years, hosting businesspeople at lunch and just after work and mostly tourists from nearby hotels in the evening. Much of the year diners have the option of tables in the heated patio/garden. They aren't looking for pyrotechnics. The chef isn't interested in being edgy, although he does start out with a trendy amuse of marinated salt cod in a porcelain Chinese spoon. Beef cheeks are on almost as many menus as foie gras, and here their silken flesh is set out with carmelized onions atop squash purée. Fresh salmon tartare is joined in a disk with a smoked version of the same fish, belted with a wide ribbon of cucumber. Tuna, duck confit, and lobster salad are entirely satisfactory, brought by an efficient staff working under the steady hand of the witty maitre d'. The cheese selection is good, as is the tiramisu.
