There's always been a restaurant -- of some sort -- inside the Union Station passenger concourse, but Traxx is the first to do justice to its grand, historic setting. Showcasing a stylish mix of retro-evocative Art Deco character with sleek contemporary touches, the interior blends seamlessly with the station's architecture, a unique fusion of Spanish colonial revival and Streamline Moderne. Elegant enough for a romantic dinner, yet welcoming to the casual commuter in search of a stylish lunch or sit-down snack, Traxx features a menu with the same cosmopolitan flavor as the station itself. Samples range from "small plates" of ahi tuna Napoleon with crispy wonton or "really good" (and they are) crab cakes with a chipotle kick, to main dishes like pork chops with mission fig polenta or the much-talked-about Gorgonzola-crusted beef tenderloin presented atop crispy and mashed potatoes surrounded by a pool of demiglace/herb reduction.
