More information on La Cueva del Oso
This place is a must to visit, and is always very busy, due to the multiple attractions of the Plaza Grande, in the heart of the historical center of the city. It is one of the few 20th Century constructions in the colonial center and since the 1940's it has been La Cueva del Oso. This place was a meeting place for Quito's bohemian set, and numerous intellectuals and artists have gathered here, the memory of whom is forever captured in the photos that decorate the place. Their memories still remain in the pictures that decorate the walls. It is a cozy place with comfortable Louis XV-type furniture. The house specialties are based on some of the original dishes served here by 'El Oso', the original owner of the restaurant. Such dishes are part of the rich and varied Ecuadorian cuisine. The menu is in English and Spanish, for visitors from other countries also eat here. There are also detailed descriptions of the dishes that identify La Cueva. Do not miss the opportunity to try the Ensalada tropical, the original Guatita(served inside an earthenware pot, following the old tradition) or the Pollo a la plancha, which is part of the non-local options served at this place.
