The name gives it away. This is robust French cuisine, served in surroundings that conjure up the sunnier climes of southern France as soon as you step through the door. The food reflects this vibe. None of your fussy nouvelle cuisine here, just high quality dishes that make the most of their wonderfully fresh ingredients. For starters, a good choice is their mezze, which includes olives, crostini of sardines, garlic bread etc. (about £1 each). Main courses might include Mediterranean fish soup, sea bass on orange flavoured fennel, fillet of beef glazed with goats cheese, with a couple of choices for the vegetarians amongst you (it's slightly limited for non-meat eaters) and a few surprises; chateaubriand of ostrich anyone?. At lunchtimes, you can also get baguettes and salads, as well as the main menu, making this place just about perfect for all occasions.
