A 6.30am start today, bit of a gutter having a nice clean hostel with good A/C and only getting to spend 8 hours there but hey ho!
Its pretty much all driving today, hours & hours of straight roads and roadhouses as the only civiliastion, if you can call them civilised.
Finally get to Karajini about 6.30pm thats 12 hours solid driving we're all very tired hot and ratty from still having no A/C in the bus. We all go to check in and the woman behind the counter is completely power tripping and gives us right attitude. the driver Graham has a few words then one of the group start having a go at her as well, its all we need after this longest day.
We eventually get checked into our tents and get beds made up then head for the BBQ 's only to be told by power trip lady we can't use the ones by reception we have to use the one tiny BBQ by our tents, thats 1 between 2 tour buses.. I feel like I aint ever getting my sausages! We finally eat about 8ish and drink some beers looking at the stars . Orion is so clear & The Southern Cross & Milky Way. It would be nice camping here for longer. By 10 we're all wiped out and fall into our beds ready for the Park tomorrow.
I slept like a log in the tent, its better than a dorm by far. Up & away by 7am skipping the nasty looking 1 shower between 20 people.
We start our hike through the gorge to Circular poll which takes about 40mins to get to. The pool is shaded by the rocks all around & has a plate of rock which the water cascades off into the pool. Its lovely to swim in, so cold and refreshing I dont wanna get out.
I wander along for another 40 mins to Fortescue Falls still in my wet swimwear cos its so much cooler in the heat even at 9am, its gonna be evil later! Theres a bit of a river flowing here from the falls and its in the sun so much warmer than before & not half as refreshing, its still nice to swim in for a while to get outta the sun. The boys all climb up the sides of the waterfall and see who can jump from the highest point, all with their girlfriends whittling about how shallow it is etc. I'm pretty sure I keep feeling something brush up against my leg so after a swim about I retreat to the rocks and dry out. A big lizardy thing about 2-3ft long follows me up onto the rocks right where everyone is climbing out. Its pretty cool & certainly a biggy.
The next pool is just a 10 minute hike through a wooded area and its the most gorgeous pool I ever saw, Its picture perfect the cool aqua water against the red rocks is just beautiful. We get to swim here for a while too, and hear a story about a huge serpent eating someone in this pool. I assume its just an urban myth until we hike up the steps back to the vistor centre read that it is actually true!
We leave the park early afternoon and start another long drive to Pardoo Cattle Station where we'll spend the night.
We finally get there about 8pm & I have my 2minute noodles delish...not! There's loadsa drillers from the mines there all sitting about drinking so I join them with the irish girl & we end up drinking beers til 2am before crawling into bed at half past in a complete zombie state, so knackered. At least I get a lay in tommorrow... 6am start again.... Ahhhhhhhhhhh!
