Now this was amazing. PL (I agree) says this is the best so far. We spent 5 days in the park, bush camping by the beach. We snorkeled with fantastic coral and fish every day – the reef starts just 10m offshore and so is very easily accessible. The water is turquoise, warm and shallow. A highlight was all four of us snorkeling with a Green Turtle – A swam with it for about 30 mins before we turned our attention to chasing a large and very colourful Moon Wrasse. Apparently there are over 200 species of Clown Fish alone – just to give an idea of the abundance of marine life in the Ningaloo Reef. Another highlight was seeing several Western Black Footed Rock Wallabies (these are a threatened species) in Yardie Creek/ Gorge.
We had a refrigeration issue – with the warm days and nights (not bad for winter!!!) and staying in one spot for 5 days with only battery power this was not unexpected. We had plenty of fresh water and no one minded going without showers as the snorkeling was so good.
We had a final couple of days in Exmouth to eat in a decent restaurant, get cleaned up, recharge our batteries and visit the impressive canyons from the east side of the range. I’m pleased to report that after all this we are even on top of home schooling.
