A nice warm nights sleep and we're all up at sunrise ready for a big ol hike.
Its a 10km return hike to Champagne Springs. Sounds lovely lets hope it is!
The hike isn't too hard, its quite flat but so hot, Gemma & me are pouring with sweat our t-shirts are soaked through its nasty. The boys have a bet of $5 to see who can get to the top of the hill in under 5 mins, us girls stand in the shade & watch them struggle up the hill, to the top in under 6mins though not bad at all.
We carry on the hike at quite a fast pace over rocks and through long spiky grass, about 1.5hrs later we get to a waterfall, its quite shallow so we dump all our stuff in the shade and climb up the green slimy, leech filled pools to the top pool which has a gorgeous waterfall flowing into it. We all swim about and do a bit of diving and get I get a massage off the waterfall on my back.
Us girls walk round the pathway over rocks barefoot to get back to the bags rather than going down the waterfalls again. Its a long way round & we soon regret it... the leeches weren't that bad...!
There's no food & everyones starving at 1'o colck & we still gotta walk back. Its the same way in as we came out on so by 3.00 we're back in the truck & having some lunch by the river. A couple of us grab a quick shower before we leave and then start the drive towards Kunnunurra.
Dan pulls into a place called The Grotto which has 129 steps down into a plunge pool with waterfall, the waterfall is almost stopped & the pool has a layer of green slime on it, a few swim over to the rope swing & have a mess about but most of us just watch.
We head outta Grotto to Mick & Carols place, they are an aboriginal couple who have there home which is a canvas sheet & use their grounds for the 4x4 tour groups to camp in. We sit with them having some beers & looking at Micks photos then make chicken stir fry for dinner & head to bed.
