Here I am in Patagonia walking about in sandals and tee shirt, who would have thunk it? The weather has been fantastic, hear that last week they had snow. I am quite blissful with the weather and the landscape, sorry I can not send photos but the computer systems in this part of Argentina are not up to it. However check other travel blogs for this area and you will most likely see the same photos that I took. When I get back to BsAs in a month or so I can send photos. The first day I walked around town and found a bird sanctuary in a marshy area where the birds practically called out ..look at me. there were a lot to see, mostly common birds but with my bird Allziemers they always look new and exciting to me. A flock of Flamingos is a lovely sight, and an Upland Goose family with half a dozen little fluff balls of goslings with black stripes down there backs are exciting to me. Black faced Ibis were abundant and all of the birds seemed very undisturbed by visitors except for one Southern Lapwing that felt I was too close to the nest and did a little rerun of Hitchcock´s ¨Birds¨. It was pretty scary, about five attacks before it felt I was sufficiently out of the area.
Yesterday I took the tour to view one of the glaciers Perito Moreno, we circled around in a boat at the foot of it, not too close and then spent a couple hours on land on viewing platforms, listening and watching the movement, it is hard to believe that one can spend two hours watching ice fall and not be bored. I was destressed to leave as I had a bet on one piece falling I could watch the gap widen, but pillars fell on either side but not the one I was betting on. The noise is surprising even small ice packs create a big sound, as they slide or cascade into the water. The sun off the glaciers burns like crazy.
We did not catch site of any Pumas but the rabbits are the size of small dogs.
Regarding Hostels I am beginning to wonder if they have become the poor mans ¨Club Met¨ the dorms are generally mixed. an interesting new experience for this old crone ( yes my friend old and crone may be redundant, so what?)In my definition CRONE= creative researcher of new experiences. In general no problem most of the younger man don´t seem to mind sharing with Grandma, but the men in there 50´s act as if they fear age is contagious. It isn't of course only inevitable like death and taxes. However if it is a ¨club met¨ what a downer I must be for them as a roommate.
Tomorrow I am off to Chile to travel north on the Ferry more ice and water.Happy Holidays to you all. Love Phyllis
