El Calafate was a pretty nice place, with small cafes and wood panel buildings, and a massive chunk of ice they call Perito Moreno Glacier, and what a chunk of ice it is...! I can honestly say the site of this this blew my mind.  We visited as part of a tour the day after we arrived, and once we arrived close to the glacier and caught fist site, decided to also take a boat tour to get up close.  This glacier is left over from the last ice age and is the fastest advancing in the world at a rate of about two metres a year, and you can see approximately 70 metres above the water.  Beneath the water, it sinks to a massive 180 metres!!!

After a picnic by the glacier, which by the way was incredibly cold, we were given a couple of hours to walk around at some look-out points next to the glacier.  I´m not kidding when I say Yaz and I actually stood there for over an hour just staring at the thing, I couldn´t take my eyes off it! So much so that my eyes went a little strange by the end of it... It was breath-taking, and I seriously wouldn´t have missed this for the world!!!

Unfortunately we didn´t see any large chunks break off as it had been raining (again) the day before and so most the loose bits had already fallen, but we were happy with the tiny bits we did see (I say tiny, but in reality they were probably bigger than me!).
