Since it took us a bit longer than expected (after color printing and laminating we would still found several "Spanish typos"), we decided to stay the night in El Cajon, not to run into trouble at night at the Mexican xsing, since we would still need a three hours drive to Ensenada, and Mexican roads are best not to be travelled at night.
On our search for a hotel in the neighborhood, we asked for directions at a gas station, and a very friendly lady reacted shocked when we said we initially wanted to cross the border this very night. "Oh boys, be carefull, Mexican crooks are horrible. So are the roads. And the police. and, and, and.. you don't want to spend a night in a Mexican prison"... Well that helped our self confidence, NOT to cross the border that night, with a self created owners license..;-)
