I planned to come to colorado to see a couple of people i'd met travelling but amazingly BOTH of them let me down so my Colorado experience was rather soured by that!

I had planned to see my friend in Denver but she cancelled on me so I headed straight to Boulder, a nearby town at the foot of the rockies ad checked into my hostel. after Vegas I was exhausted and looking forward to a lie in so imagine my horror when I'm told I am NOT ALLOWED into my room between 10am and 5pm every day! CRAZY!!! It felt like hostels of old and I half expected to be asked to do chores too! at 27 dollars a night it wasn't cheap but it was nasty... smelly rooms and nasty plastic sheeting on the beds which sagged so much it was hard to stay on them!

That evening I went out for dinner and met some locals who took me out drinking with them. I was left with one guy who I felt safe with as he was married but that all changed when he invited me back to his and told me he had an open marriage! yikes! i didn't want to insult him so told him I couldn't do that to his wife because of the sisterhood but he was not impressed and we didn't exactly part on good terms!

The following day I had a massage and had my hair done to make me feel better about being stuck in Colorado when neither of my friends seemed to want to see me. At 5pm I met Jude, a girl from my dorm room and we hit happy hour at a lovely bar who offered great food and bottomless wine for 6 dollars! We thoroughly tested the bottomless theory and then hit some other bars to try out the boulder nightlife. It was a good night out and cheered me up a bit, but my general feeling in Colorado was a bit glum!

I was thinking about hiring a car and seeing the rest of the state but thew next day it snowed really heavily and I was a bit scared to hit the mountains in the snow whilst getting used to being on the wrong side of the road! Instead I just hung out in the town, eating and chilling and booked myself on a flight the following day to Austin, Texas so that I could get out of Colorado and go somewhere I actually wanted to be!

My impressions of Boulder... a nice little town with a pleasant arts scene and cool snow but an experience ruined by feeling really let down. I think Colorado would be better in winter for skiing or summer for hiking but I think in autumn it's not ideal as theres not too much to do!

Bring on Texas and my next big adventure!
