When it comes to great food, Fez is the moroccan capital.

in the medina you will find all the options and all the prices, ans even some new places that are becoming everyones favourite.

Most of the touristy restaurants gather in the Bab Boujelloud area. Those are good for some simple dishes such as chicken brochette with fries. Fez is a medieval city, do not expect to find it up to date with your idea of higiene; just dont look at the kitchen, and the meal will be delicious. Those are your best options:

-Restaurant Le Kasbah. a classic with the best terrace, very moroccan, cheap, packed with young people with a tight budget, but still the best chicken brochette in the medina.

- Restaurant Buayad. Just opposite, it gets less clients but the quality overall is much better, with real cloths and air conditionings that actually works. very good fish tagine.

- Tamis. You'll find it in everyguide: lonelyplanet, etc. and because of that gets a lot more clients and cares less about what he is serving, but still very kind in every way.

- Medina Cafe. I tried it because it was featured in a lot of places, but most certanily that was years ago, and they did not bother updating it, and is now quite sad actually.

- Cafe Clock. Close to Bou Inania Medersa. A good surprise run by an englishman, Mike. A house renovated into a literary cafe with good salads and better desserts. Good vibrations all over, and a nice terrace to enjoy free wifi.

- Fez Lounge. Further down the Tala, close to all the good markets. Newly inagurated by an Italian, Alessandro. In an unique cool marrakech style, with dim lighting and chill music. They serve one of the best kefta tagines in the medina, and pretty good pastilla too. On top they've got some bruschettas (the camembert one is delicious). It makes for a good relaxing stop in between shopping, or a nice place to have a quiet dinner by candles.

- Fes et Gestes. run by the sweetest frenchwoman, Cecile. In the quiet area of Ziat, set in a beautiful courtyard garden, its the perfect spot for a lunch with friends. Inexpensive and relaxing, I could just stay there all day long browsing the well stocked library.
