Oh my, what a day...Starts with both Jen and Darcy not feeling their best. Jen with a razor sharp throat and Darcy with well a tummy upset. Jen was not able to join us day 5 of the OR...oh no!!!! I only pay a bit of attention to what she does to help Becki in the OR....Good thing I can wing it..Another beautiful walk to the hospital though. The sun was shining again..I hope it shines tomorrow on our day off...We get to the OR to find we have 10 cases to do..I can not work the sterilizer though..Not good. Lucky we have formaldihide..yuck..

All is going great. What a team we have, everyone helping out. The Bhutanese staff who usually go for lunch away at a friends house, have been invited to have lunch with us..About time if you ask me..This helps with scrubs..We cant be in 2 places at the same time..
Unfortunately, one of our young patients had to spend 5 hours with us in the recovery room..Bleeding terrible from the start of surgery..Not planned, or good for him..We had to do a full resucitation on him..What an event. Very interesting to see the Bhutanese system in action. After bleeding for 3 hours we did his blood work..Low hemoglobin..Blood transfusion required...Now what??? Call the local lab technicians...They start the fanout for blood donors...School students start showing up. We had four potential donors with in 15 minutes...After donating blood, it was screened for hepatitis, syphillis, and HIV we had ourselves a donor..Two hot fresh units later our little guy is doing better....So what could be going on..A little investigating and the Dad then tells us that everyone in the family has slow clotting and always bleeds longer and more than anyone else. Even the smallest cut..Nice to know now!!! We all were very worried, but took the best care of him and know that in the morning we will check on him and he will be smiling at us...I think I have forgotten to mention that during this whole ordeal, he lay on the bed being the most co operative patient I have had the pleasure of taking care of..

So after our 2100 dinner, all the others in bed, besides us 8 die hards, we head to bed. Tomorrow is our day off....Thank goodness..We all really need it after this..We are on the road to Bumthang to the Swiss Guest Haus and to visit an ancient Bhuddist monestary...
Goodnite all...
