Brilliant Bolivia in 12 days!
From The map! in Sucre, Bolivia on Sep 19 '09
After crossing the border and training into Santa Cruz, the four of us (Chantelle, Sinead and us) bussed down to Sucre (where Jenny will be for 3 months as of Jan). The town is very hilly and steep and lacking a little air but we managed to huff and puff our way to Cafe Merador at the top which overlooks it all to have a lovely dinner together and enjoy the view.
The next day we took to Tarabuco market and bought our weight in Alpaca goods -cheap and comfy, yay!! We then bussed to Potosi where there is a working mine that we did a tour of - it is hard to describe this experience, not good or bad but interesting and surprising that people are allowed to work in those conditions in this day and age.
We then headed to Tupiza, in what looks like the Wild West! In fact somebody told us that it was where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid were killed, can anyone confirm or deny this?! Here we met Jackie and Alex from Australia on a 7 hour horse trek. After 7 hours arses were incredibly sore but managed to haul ourselves off the horse in order to find Pina Coladas!
The next day five of us (Jackie, Alex, Chris -a guy from NY, and us) began a 4 day tour to Uyuni and the Salt Flats. A brilliant four days full of fab food, great views and many laughs... After saying goodbyes in Uyuni we bussed to La Paz and then Lake Titicaca where we enjoyed sun, thunderstorms, hail, a trek on the Island of the Sun in the rain and Pisco Sours.
Next stop Cuzco, Peru and the Inca trail...
