Hot, humid, clean! Our 3 favourite words to describe Mexico so far!  The trip here was eventful, including Gemma having her luggage searched in Cancun!  More about that later!

So we left a grumpy Heathrow pretty much on time, and enjoyed several films during the 9 hour flight.  We were, however, slightly disappointed with the food situation aboard our Virgin VS005 flight - it was rather lacking!  And there was no choc-ice in the afternoon.

We landed in Miami a little early and sailed through US immigration, which was not expected, especially when Gemma´s immigration officer, Alverez, all but asked her for her phone number!  Checking in at Mexicana Airways, we were both complemented on our beauty, followed by the man at passport control commenting on our ´cute´ photos!  Let´s hope they are the start of many complements to come!

Our flight to Cancun was short and sweet, and they provided us with a rather nice meaty/cheesy sandwich - well done Mexicana!

At Cancun airport, we once again sailed through immigration, after declaring we did NOT have swine flu, and went on the Customs.  Mexican Customs have an interesting way of choosing who they search - we were asked to press a button, if the light turned red, we were searched, if green we went on our way!  Gemma pressed the button first, and bless her, she went red!  Bob followed swiftly behind, with a carefully controlled Green!  The very polite Customs Officers then had a quick look through Gemma´s bags and then we were on our way!

Outside we were met by a nice man who brought us to Playa Del Carmen in his car.  Incidently, whilst waiting for the car, we observed a very busy man cleaning the covered walk way top to bottom!  They are sooooo clean here!

We arrived at the residence at about 8pm (that´s 2am to you) and were shown in to our rooms.  They are basic but spacious, and have air con, fans and a TV.  The showers are big enough to sleep in too!  The only disappointment we have so far encountered in Mexico is that you can´t flush ANY loo roll down the loo - where do you put it then????  Ewwwwwwww!

Who the heck is he?!

We went for a little potter around to try and find some water, experiencing the sights and sounds of Avenue Quinta, but more so, the smells - ummmmm food!  We observed that you can buy 4 beers AND nachos for only $100 MX which equates to 5 pounds!!  Bargain!  We found the beach, Bob nearly fell in it because, whilst warning Gemma to ´Mind the step´, she herself fell down it!

We then decided enough was enough and went to bed.  Well, it was half three in the morning!

Enough blogging for now, we need to find Walmart and some traditional food for lunch!  Vamos!

@Grumpybrother: It is far too humid for football shirts! I will have to wait until it dies down. On the up side, the food is rather good! A lot of Mexican food though ;o)

Typical Brits abroad, first you complain about the toilets, then you go out to buy beer and crisps! Well done, and well done for not letting the side down. Were you wearing football shirts?
