The Beauty of the Earth
From My Life Abroad--Turkey & Cyprus with Molly Crocker in Bodrum, Turkey on May 15 '09
Last night we saw dolphins. I was trying to sleep, when all of a sudden I hear strange splashing sounds. I put my glasses on and there they were. They were so beautiful :) After lunch we all got onto Boat C and drove to the harbor to catch vans to Patara and Xanthos. In Patara and Xanthos we saw many beautiful things. We saw flowers and 1,500 year old palms, and classical architecture, but the most exciting piece I saw today was the "Rosetta Stone of the Lycian Language" Though the stone is primarily Lycian, there are three lines in a Greek dialect that helped the archeologists to decifer a the Lyician language. I had to touch it there is something about touching something that was fashioned by someone's hand who has been dead for more than a thousand years. We finished out our day with one of the most spectacular things I have seen in my life. The sun setting over the Medditerrean Sea. I came on this trip expecting to learn about culture, archeology, history, architecture and many others things. I expected to fall more deeply into the grasps of these subjects that have fascinated me since I was a small child, and I have, but I did not come expecting to learn about myself and more than anything I have learned in these amazing sites I have been learning who I am and what I appreciate. This trip is an amazing educational experience, but it is also a growing experience.
