Our initial plan today is to visit Cordoba by train, giving us a chance to work out how to get to the railway station and validate our Eurail passes which we will start to use when we leave Seville. It's a taxi ride from the bus station near our hotel and we are there. Euro shock sets in when we are told it will be 50 Euros each return to Cordoba for the day! That's about $AUD180 so we do a quick double take and ask how much to Cadiz, 27 Euros return for both of us, we are sold, buy our tickets and hop on the train. 2 hours later we are in Cadiz with the those perfect blue skies again. The train ride has been an education after experiencing Australian trains. Even though this is not a super fast or AVE train it is super smooth and quiet, extremely clean and comfortable and reaches speeds up to nearly 160km per hour as we travel effortlessly to Cadiz. It makes our rail system archaic and 3rd world in comparison.

After we arrive, it's a short walk past the port where there are a number of large cruise ships berthed and we are in town hastily buying a map to navigate ourselves around the central part of Cadiz. We visit the main attractions including the Cathedral and Roman Theatre that unfortunately isn't open but can still be seen. Finally we have made the waters edge, even if it is the Atlantic and not the Mediterranean. As I point out to Carol when she looks west, she is "looking" at the Americas. We spend the day just poking about, looking at the old buildings, having a quiet beer or two and enjoying the ambience of the old town, its a very pleasant way to spend a day and even though there are a lot of tourists in town by keeping away from the popular spots we manage to avoid them most of the time. We finish the day near the railway station with a drink and snack and Carol has a "Cadiz" cappuccino, not much coffee topped with a huge mound of whipped cream and cinnamon. Another enjoyable train ride where its time for tea and we go to our new "local" the La Bottega and have tapas and drinks before heading back to the hotel.
