Hongkers madness

On his way back to Blighty, Ed stopped off in Hong Kong to visit his old school mate Howard. He only had two days there and spent the majority of that time drinking and perspiring - it was more fun than it sounds. Sadly, while in England he somehow managed to delete all of the photos he took there. Doh.

So all we do have are Candice's pics - she went to Hong Kong on her way back to Sydney from the UK and stayed with her old friend Claire Dicey.

We spent the afternoon with about 20 other peeps drinking beers, swimming, tanning and water skiing to the sound of pumping tunes. It was so pimp I felt like I was a gangsta in Miami.

What an incredible city. We both loved it even though we were there at separate times. Dicey was the perfect host, not allowing me to wallow in jetlag and put me through my paces taking me up the hill in the 35 degree humidity. But it was well worth the slog because the views were magnificent. Dicey reckoned it was the clearest day she'd seen in her three years in Hongkers, so I was incredibly blessed. After some noodles for lunch, and a restorative nap, I met up with Howard and his girlfriend Lucy who showed me the sights and sounds of the city. We had sunset cocktails underneath the building where Batman was filmed followed by delcious Chinese food in town. A few lychee cocktails and rum and cokes later and I was well into the expat swing of things.

The next day, Dicey took me to their club in Happy Valley which overlooks an amazing racecourse for a hangover-curing swim followed by traditional dim sum in an enormous restaurant. We then took a ferry across to Rainbow island where we joined a group of people on a junk - a wooden pleasure boat. We spent the afternoon with about 20 other peeps drinking beers, swimming, tanning and water skiing to the sound of pumping tunes. It was so pimp I felt like I was a gangsta in Miami. All too soon it was time to head back to the main island, and Dice took me to a night market in Kowloon where we had another yummy meal.

We then joined the others in Rat Alley for a few beers. With a 7am flight the next day, still suffering from jetlag, and only just over my hangover from the night before, I was hoping for an early night. But it was not to be. We passed the vodka jelly bar on our way home which Ed had told me about and, well, the rest is history. Unlike Ed though, I did manage to get some sleep before the flight (3 hours).

Thanks to Dicey and Rich for having me. I absolutely loved the city and cannot wait to go back. They're moving to Singapore at the end of the year though. So guess where I'll be stopping over on my next trip back to England? Watch this space...
