Kratie ist eine ruhige Stadt am Mekong Fluss die mich doch sehr an Kampot and der Südküste erinnert – keine großen Attraktionen, viele veraltete Gebäude, die einen unberührten, interessanten Charm versprühen. Die Menschen sind höflich und man bekommt ein freundliches “HALLO” von den Kindern zugerufen. Viele Backpacker halten hier um die seltenen Süßwasser-‘Irrawaddy Delfine’ zu sehen, die im Mekong Fluss leben. Schade, daß ich in Siem Reap krank wurde, ansonsten hätte ich mehr Zeit das kambotschanische Landleben der Umgebung zu erkunden.

Mit dem Bus bin ich morgens von Siem Reap los mit dem Ziel eine Nacht in ‘Kampong Cham’ zu uebernachten. Am fruehen Nachmittag in der Stadt dachte ich, ich sollte noch weiter gen Laos, wo ich am naechsten Tag hinwollte. Von hier waren es noch mehr als… Stunden, zu weit fur einen Tag, dachte ich. Der letzte Bus war schon weg, aber ich fand noch ein Plaetzchen in einem Taxi. Mit insgesamt sieben Leute inklusive Fahrer fuhren wir im Toyota Camry nach Kratie; drei vollschlanke hinten, ein Mädel mit auf dem Fahrersitz und ich neben ihrer Freundin eingequetscht an der Tür. War nett mal in einem Auto zu sitzen, nach auch nur 1,5 Stunden stieg einer aus und ich konnte hinten sitzen. Nach einer weiteren Stunde waren wir dann da.

Gemacht habe ich den Rest des Tages eingentlich nicht viel. Ein paar Erledigungen in der Stadt und dann find es auch an zu regnen und ich habe das Gasthaus nicht mehr verlassen bis zum naechsten Morgen.

Kratie is a quite riverside town at the Mekong which reminds me at Kampot at the south coast – no big attractions, many old run down buildings which gives it a pristine, interesting charme. The people are friendly courteous and you get everywhere a friendly ‘HALLO” from the local kids. Many backpacker stop here to see the rare fresh water Irrywaddy-Dolphins which lives in the Mekong. Pity that I got sick in Siem Reap otherwise I would have spent more time to explore the Cambodian countryside in this area.

I took the morning bus to ‘Kampong Cham’ with the plan to stay there for one night. On the next day I wanted to go to Laos which was about ….. hours by bus; too long for one day I thought. I arrived in the early afternoon but the last bus was already gone. Lucky I found a little spot in a so called ‘share taxi’. With six passengers we drove in a Toyota Camry to Kratie – three big people in the back, one girl with the driver on a seat and me squashed into the window on the passengers seat. Fortunately after 1.5 hours somebody left so I could sit in the back. Another hour and I arrived in Kratie.

I actually did not do much the rest of the day; just a little bit of this and a little bit of these and then it started to rain so I stayed in the guesthouse until the next morning.
