We only had one night in Fethiye but stayed at a lovely hostel called Yildirim Guesthouse which was decorated with tribal carpets.  The thing to do in Fethiye is head down to the fish market, buy some seafood and then have it cooked in one of the surrounding restaurants.  It's really cheap that way as the restaurant only charges 5lira per person to cook it and they supply you with bread and salad as well.  We got some squid and some massive prawns and they were cooked superbly!

The next day we mentioned to the hostel owner that we would like to buy a rug or carpet.  He took us to his shop and showed us tribal kilims (woven carpets) and served us apple tea.  We eventually chose (working by elimination) a Fethiye rug and cushion cover.  He arranged to have it all shipped back for us which cost us more than the carpet and cushion cover!  He mentioned that he is good friends with a tasmanian, which was proven later as we took a walk on the wharf and heard someone yell "Hey, Tasmanians!"  Our carpet seller/hostel owner was on one of the cruise boats and we went on board to meet Ros, a fellow Tasmanian.  She works in Turkey managing the cruises for 3 months of every year, her Turkish business partner is due to come to Tas in January so we enjoyed an hour reminiscing with her before we set off to Dalaman Airport to get a quick one hour flight to Istanbul.
