Week 4

This week we had a training session on IB Analyst’s.  The session went over McLagan’s trends in compensation etc… and projections for 2009 for the Investment Banking Analysts.  I won’t go into any of the findings but it is very interesting to see how the economy has effected compensation.

            Although it is great to learn more in general about the financial services industry, I can see that one of the most valuable skills I will take away from this internship is a deep understanding of Microsoft Excel.  Microsoft Excel is used in almost any job out there, so it is vital to have a deep understanding of the software.  I believe that this understanding will put me ahead of the game when it comes to competing for a job in the future.  Furthermore, this understanding will help me to be more productive because I can take advantage of shortcuts that those who are not familiar with the software would not know.

I participated in a company wide training session on Investment Banking Analysts.

            I have been looking forward to this week because on Friday we had our company picnic (which we got paid to go to!)  The picnic was great and the weather was beautiful.  It also gave me a chance to talk to co-workers outside of the office.   We set up a cornhole tournament where I was partnered with my boss, Justin.  We didn’t win, but we put up a good fight.  Next week, I expect to do more data loading, folder reviewing and compiling edit questions for employers!
