We went to the Presbyterian Church to see an exhibit of about 500 photos from about 1850 to 1920 on the people of the city. They were late opening up the doors so we headed over to St Mary’s Basilica to see the stained windows. On the way there a man pulled over in his truck and said, “You a coupla lost tourists? Cuz I see your fingers pointing this way and that and that’s how I know yer lost”. I’m sure I wasn’t pointing any fingers. Saw the stained glass windows and headed back

over to the Presbyterian Church. Not quite as opulent but the photos of life pre and post Civil War were interesting. Wandered around downtown some more (still the only ones on the streets) before we headed out to lunch at Mammy’s Cupboard a few miles south of town. Built in 1940, it’s a 28 foot tall black woman and you eat underneath her skirt. I know, right? The only veggie option was the peanut butter and jelly sandwich so had the beans and yellow rice with a salad and broccoli corn bread. The beans had a fair amount of sausage in them so just avoided that. Dessert was lemon ice box pie which I had never had before (lemon juice, egg and condensed milk in a graham cracker crust- healthy! Rick had banana-caramel pie.

After that I was ready for a nap but we visited Dunleith mansion (http://www.dunleith.com/) first. I knew we were in big trouble when 25 minutes after Annalo started talking (and talking and talking) we were still in the first room and then the door opened and two people for the next tour came in. So she sped it up a bit and we saw the other rooms in 10 minutes. If the civil war ever had a gossip girl, it was her.
Back to the hotel to crash and once revived we continued our racial stereotyped culinary experience with dinner at Lil Dagos italian cafe. The background music was hits from the 80s and the last song before leaving was “She’s a Beauty” by The Tubes so Rick reenacted the entire beauty pageant scene from After School Special. Rushed back to the hotel to see the beautiful sunset over the river.
