Ethan Allen Homestead
From "Around the World in a Wheelchair" in Burlington, United States on Jun 14 '09
If you ask a Californian, "Who is Ethan Allen?" you will probably get the answer. Didn't he make furniture? WRONG! Then ask about the 13 original colonies and what state became the 14th state? Typically you will get a blank look and a lot of guesses.
My book, "The Fourteenth State" a Biographical Novel of Ethan Allen is about Vermont and its hero of Fort Ticonderoga, Ethan Allen. Ethan led the Green Mountain Boys to capture the Gibralter of Lake Champlain (Fort Ticonderoga) guarding the narrows into the Hudson River.
The British Army on Montreal wanted to join the British in New York City using the water highway of Lake Champlain and Hudson River cutting New England off from the rest of the war. Canon captured from the British at Fort Ticonderoga were sent to the Colonial Army in Boston to fight the British when the war broke out.
The tender love story between Ethan Allen and the beautiful, fashionable, charming and effervescent Fanny Wall adds still another dimension to this incredible saga.
The Fourteenth State is available from Amazon, and Barnes & Nobel or from the website www.JPRoach.org.
Ethan Allen Homested in Burlington Vermont is a Historical Site and is the home he built for his wife Fanny. Visit and explore. You will like it.
