Oh No! Barf!

I woke up this morning to the sound of my son upchucking. What a great way to kick off our holiday? We were housebound while he slept it off this morning. It was all I could do to avoid joining him with my own bucket. I can't stand that sound.
When he recovered in the afternoon, we went off to the Dortmund Zoo. It was smaller than the one in Toronto, but more lush. It is as if they plucked the zoo into the middle of a forest. It had all the typical animals - tigers, lions, giraffes, rhinos and so. However, there were plenty of anteaters and some armadillos. Chantal swears she's never seen them at a zoo before.

The children enjoyed the playgound in the middle of the zoo. They even took a couple of spins around on small, motorized motorcyles. Scarlett drove with her head down, staring at the gas pedal, driving straight into the side wall. She calmly backed up and sped off again.
We ate pomme frites (French fries) with mayoniase (ketchup for the children) at the biergarten (beer garden). I ate an apple pie that seemed to attract all the yellow jackets in the area, as well as a peacock and a magpie. I wolfed it down while the children screamed and swatted wildly at the buzzing intruders.
When we returned home, we grabbed some pizzas for supper. Our pepperoni pizza came topped with massive hot peppers that we took off before presenting them to Scarlett and Rory. Chantal's cousin had some concotion of tuna and shrimp topping.
Day one is over and Chantal and I are still on speaking terms.
